Overview to Interventions and Benefits (2 days)

This course provides an overview of the state benefit system for interventions staff who deal with the collection of evidence for changes of circumstances and reviews. It guides the learner through the essential information required to enable them to build the framework central to their job.

Benefits Overpayments

This course provides an in-depth view of the practical issues surrounding overpayment of benefit. It includes the legislative requirement for the LA to look at the overpayment and ask a series of questions, guiding the learner through the issues which may arise as the process continues through recovery and enforcement.

Benefit Assessor Skills

This course will focus on providing you with sufficient knowledge to decide who is eligible to claim and to correctly calculate Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

Decision Making & Appeals

This course offers a chance for staff dealing with appeals to look at the customer’s rights and consider all options available to the Local Authority. It deals with the effective preparation and submission of cases to Tribunal stage and beyond.

Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)

This course gives a comprehensive overview of the basic rules and covers the latest changes dealing with the phasing-out of incapacity based benefits.

Assessing HB for "Exempt Accommodation for Supported Living"

This course focuses on addressing the different aspects of Exempt Accommodation and the issues that arise when an Exempt Accommodation case is considered.

Local Housing Allowance (LHA)

The course outlines the aims of the local housing allowance scheme with regard to fairness, choice, transparency, financial inclusion, personal responsibility and improved administration. Persons from Abroad (PFA)
